Before neutering, a cat's metabolism is adjusted to a diet with an approximately constant energy content. The cat eats only as much as it needs to cover its energy requirements. After neutering, this natural regulatory process is lost - the cat eats more than it needs, which quickly leads to overweight.
Just 48 hours after neutering, your cat's food intake increases by 20%, while its energy requirements simultaneously decrease by approximately 30%.
Urinary stones are more common in sterilized cats, especially if they are overweight, as they usually drink less and therefore urinate less.
