"Clicker" Training Aid Signal for trained positive behavior "Clicker training" is a gentle and fast training technique. The clicker is a small tool that produces a special signal: click-clack! Initially, the animal is shown that the signal announces the arrival of a treat. Once the animal has understood (typically after just 3 repetitions), the signal is a very effective way to simplify the animal's association between its behavior and the reward. What is special about this training is that "clicker training" uses reward and not punishment. Rewarding positive behavior happily motivates the animal to continue. With punishment methods, on the other hand, the dog does not understand what it needs to do differently to avoid being punished. It lacks the indication of positive impulse. Thus, punishment methods discourage the dog and it develops an aversion to work.
