Large adult dogs have a relatively small, sensitive digestive system and therefore limited digestive capacity.
The relative weight of the gastrointestinal tract in relation to body weight is only 3.5% in large dogs, whereas in small dogs it is 7.0%.
Intestinal walls are more permeable than in small dogs, which can lead to increased water entry into the intestine and thus a higher fecal water content.
Increased fermentation activity of large intestinal bacteria can also lead to flatulence in large dogs.

Bones and Joints Large dogs are often very active. Due to their natural size and associated body weight (up to 44 kg), their joints are often exposed to intense stress.
With increased, excessive exercise, changes in bones and joints, such as osteoarthritis, can occur early.
This must be compensated for by a special, highly digestible diet.
